Week 22 , Bhagwat Gita Chapter 7 (Shlokas 15-30) Chants

Friends , we have completed the chapter 7 (Jñāna Vijñāna Yog) and here are my three learnings from the shlokas covered today. Three Critical Learnings 1. Four type of people surrender to me distressed , the Knowledge seekers , Seekers of Worldly possessions  and those already situated in knowledge. One how is endowed in knowledge after many births of spiritual practice such a soul is dear to me and is very rare. 2. People surrender to Celestial gods for material desire and their own nature and with faith devotee obtains the objects of desire but that fruit is perishable 3. There are illusion of desires and aversions in material realm and all living beings from birth are deluded by these. But whose sins are destroyed by pious activities become free from these illusions. Paramagati

When the forms are destroyed, the formless remains- and so remains Maya in the form of (specific) vibrations which is the cause of all the creation. That is why it is called the unmanifest and when it takes the form the same becomes manifest. And there is a state beyond manifest and the unmanifest- that is called ‘ Anadisiddha ’- the Brahm that takes the form of the world, doesn’t get destroyed when the world gets destroyed. As the meaning cannot be wiped out even when the word that contains it is wiped out and so is called ‘ Akshar '. And so, on a microcosmic level, we can say that which is not destroyed when the body is destroyed is that indestructible constant- Brahma. And no one can measure the expanse of it that lies beyond- is called the ‘ Paramagati ’. And that which lies in the body in the semi-sleep and remains unresponsible for any actions/functions related to the body or its senses- just like the sun shines without participating in the functioning of the world, but the

The constant rhythm (description of Brahmlok)

Week 24, chapter 8, shlokas 16-28 And then there is a tower of fourteen Bhuvanas (universes), one that lies in the forefront of the seven eternals and is also the forehead of the mountain (made of the three worlds) called as Brahmabhuvan . When the cycle of four eras (yugas) takes a thousand turns, which makes one day of Brahmdev  (God of creation) and one thousand quartets make one night of his world. The inhabitants of his world never die and remain eternal. And those who witness the eight parts of the day of Brahmadev are called ‘ Ahoratravid’ (the knower of days and night of the world of Brahmadev). With the rising of the day in Brahmloka, the manifest universe arises from the unmanifest matter which can never be measured. And with the completion of four parts of the day the manifested world ends. At the beginning of winters in the world of Brahmdev, the clouds of matter disappear and appear again with the onset of summer. In the same way with the rising of the day of Brahm

Week 21 , Bhagwat Gita Chapter 7 (Shlokas 1-14) Chants

Friends , we have started the chapter 7 (Jñāna Vijñāna Yog) and here are my three learnings from the shlokas covered today. 1. There are two energies material(five elements , mind , ego an intellect) and soul energy of Divine. Knowing the divine is only through devotion and Surrender.  2. All Living beings are manifested by these two energies. 3. Three states of material existence are manifested by Passion, Goodness and Ignorance and these are described as "Maya". The vector of desire

How do those who have mastered their senses recognize you when their time to go (death) comes? I am adhiyagna, and those who are aware of this, remain indifferent to the body of five elements and attain oneness with me and they remain indifferent to the body even when it is destroyed. For them, the body is just an attire and not themselves. So, this Brahm that is omnipresent becomes one with the intellect. As per the principle, it is said that one is driven towards that- one remembers at the time of death. Like the desire for certain things during the lifetime increases the urge to attain the same at the time of death- and this urge is what one carries with them when the body is destroyed, and this urge drives the soul towards achieving that desire. And so, the soul follows that vector. So, I say remember me at the time of death so that you come to me. The practice of attention when brought again and again towards me (Brahm), the attention will develop a desire (vector) towards the

Adhibhoota, adhidaivat and adhiyagna

What is adhibhoota (entity)? what is adhidaivat (predestination)? What is adhiyagna (prime offering)? And who is in this body? And how do those who have mastered their senses recognize you when their time to go (death) comes? Adhibhoota (the primal being or entity)- The way clouds appear and disappear in the sky, in the same way its existence is superficial, and non-existence is the real state. It comes into manifestation (expressed state) only when the five great spirits (the panchmahabhootas ) combine and give it a visible form and diminishes when the time of destruction comes. Adhidaivat – The essence of life referred to as the ‘Purusha’ ( jeev ), the eye of vitality, who enjoys pleasures produced by the creative force (Prakruti). He looks after the intellect and presides the kingdom of senses and is a tree for the birds of desires to rest when the body of five elements is destroyed. The supreme soul in essence but separated from it as it remains in the pride sleep. In a

The Brahm, The Atman and the Karma

Week 23, chapter 8, shlokas (1-14) Asks Arjuna- What is Brahm? What is atman? What is karma? What is adhyatma (spirituality)? What is adhibhuta (entity)? And, what is adhidaiva (predestination)? What is adhiyagna (prime offering)? and who resides in the body? And how does those who have mastered their senses recognizes you when their time to go (death) comes?   Answers Krishna one by one- Brahm is the supreme- the eternal. Extremely subtle that it appears like a zero, but its nature is not like that. So subtle that it can be filtered by the sieve of the microscopic sky; Is continuous and cannot be obtained by any worldly/superficial knowledge. It  is not born when the things that have form are conceived. And is not destroyed when the things which have form are destroyed. This natural state of the supreme spirit (Brahm) that is continuous is called adhyatm (spirituality).  Brahm is eternal and supreme, and Atman is his spirit in man. Elaborates Shri Gyaneshwara

The favourite worshipper and the ripened ones

Week 22, chapter- 7, shloka 15-30 Tells Krishna- then there are those who are possessed by pride and have abandoned their purpose. Surrounded by delusion, there are four types of people who worship me. One- who is affected and driven by sorrow, two- who is inquisitive/curious, three- the one who treasures something, and fourth- who is knowledgeable (a man of vision). Out of these four, the man of vision is my true worshipper as he is the one who worships me without a selfish motive. In the light of his enlightened knowledge, he becomes one with me and still worships me ( Ananya bhakti ). The other three worshippers are also dear to me, but the man of vision is dearest to my heart, and in him resides my soul, and in me- his. He is the one who attains non-duality and so is one with me. The others who worship me, their vision is blinded by indulgences and worldly pleasures and happiness. The desire to attain the fruit of worship separates them from attaining oneness with me. They

Week 20 , Bhagwat Gita (Shlokas 29-47) Chants

Friends , today we will be completing our Chapter 6 and here are three Key learning from the set of shlokas we have covered today. And as always please share your views in the comments . Have a happy week ahead. I regard them to be perfect yogis who see the true equality of all living beings and respond to the joys and sorrows of others as if they were their own.  The mind is very restless, turbulent, strong and obstinate. It appears to me that it is more difficult to control than the wind. Only by practice and detachment it can be controlled. Goal of Yoga is perfection and if it cannot be achieved  in this life then such person continues his journey in next life.

The Purusha

The narrative gets as beautiful as possible. Along with notes of Gyaneshwara on Bhagwad Geeta, I came across the translation of Bhagwad Geeta by Juan Mascaro. Starting from the introduction written by Simon Brodbeck the whole translation carries a certain beauty- something that aroused my interest in the subject and the context of the contemporary times when the text was written. Something everyone who is exploring the subject may take reference of as a starting point for their journey.   Captivated by the shlokas coming next, I feel lack of desire to touch it for I may destroy the sensitivity of the translation offered by Juan Mascaro (just like a work of art)— may I present the same in its untouched state. But beyond my visible nature is my invisible spirit. This is the fountain of life whereby this universe has its being. All things have their life in this life, and I am their beginning and end. In this whole vast universe, there is nothing higher than I. All the worlds

The Prakriti

Week 21, chapter 7, shloka 1-14 As Krishna gets mirror-like Arjuna to listen to Him and understand Him; delighted, Krishna preaches further… The knowledge of ‘self’ and the knowledge of the physical world. The realm where the intellect doesn’t enter and all the thoughts and reasonings stop is the realm of true knowledge ( Gyaan) –rest all is the knowledge of the physical world ( Vigyan ). And when from this physical understanding, one tries to understand the physical world, that is called ‘Agyaan’- no knowledge/false knowledge. Like out of millions who enter the flood of desire to attain self-knowledge, there would be one who will attain the pure knowledge of ‘self’. So, one must not consider it an ordinary thing. The Prakriti Just like the body casts its shadow, My shadow is ‘Maya' also called ‘Prakriti’, and is the creative force of nature. My nature is visible in eight forms- the earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, reason, and the sense of ‘I’ (the pride). And the
